The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the appointment of Commodore Reginald Adoki as the new Commander of the Maritime Guard Command (MGC) at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Adoki takes over from Commodore H.C. Oriekeze, who has been redeployed.
A Principal Warfare Officer with specialisation in communications and intelligence, Adoki brings over 25 years of experience in the Nigerian Navy, spanning training, staff and operational assignments. As a seaman officer, he has commanded NNS Andoni, NNS Kyanwa and NNS Kada. Notably, under his leadership, NNS Kada undertook her maiden voyage from the United Arab Emirates — her country of build — to Nigeria.
Commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Adoki has steadily advanced both academically and professionally. He holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and another M.Sc. in Terrorism, Security and Policing from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Defence and Security Studies at the National Defence Academy (NDA).
A highly decorated officer, he has received several medals in recognition of his distinguished service.

Welcoming the new Maritime Guard Command Commander, NIMASA’s Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, expressed confidence in Adoki’s appointment, noting that his wealth of experience will further strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security architecture.
The Maritime Guard Command, domiciled within NIMASA, was established under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Agency and the Nigerian Navy.
The initiative is designed to enhance operational efficiency in Nigeria’s territorial waters, particularly in the enforcement of maritime security, safety and regulatory compliance.
