Nigeria has recorded significant progress in its aviation safety oversight system following the conclusion of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Western and Central African Office (WACAF) Regional Office Safety Team (ROST) technical assistance mission.

At a debriefing ceremony held at the Authority’s Corporate Headquarters on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, described the mission as both rigorous and highly constructive, noting that it has further strengthened Nigeria’s preparedness ahead of the ICAO International Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) scheduled for April 15–22, 2026.

Najomo assured the ICAO delegation that all recommendations arising from the mission would be promptly integrated into an accelerated action framework. According to him, the framework will feature clearly defined timelines, measurable performance outcomes, and enhanced coordination across directorates to ensure effective implementation.

He commended ICAO WACAF, the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organisation (BAGASOO), the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and all NCAA personnel for their dedication and professionalism throughout the exercise.

The DGCA noted that the mission has reinforced institutional systems, sharpened operational focus, and positioned Nigeria to further improve its overall aviation safety performance.

Speaking on behalf of the ICAO team, Kebba Jammeh acknowledged Nigeria’s responsiveness and praised the high level of cooperation demonstrated by the NCAA’s technical directorates and partner agencies during the mission.
