Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is set to host a historic national celebration marking 100 Years of Aviation in Nigeria — a momentous milestone honouring a century of courage, innovation, and transformative achievements that have defined the nation’s aviation journey.

The Centenary Celebration, scheduled for Monday, December 1st, 2025, at the African Hall, Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center, Abuja, will begin at 10:00 a.m. prompt. The event will spotlight Nigeria’s aviation evolution since the first aircraft touched down in Kano in 1925, paying tribute to the pioneers whose bold steps paved the way for today’s modern aviation landscape.

A major highlight of the ceremony will be the recognition of 40 Legends of Aviation—distinguished veterans, administrators, engineers, pilots, air traffic controllers, and visionaries whose dedication and service helped build the vibrant aviation ecosystem the nation now celebrates. These honourees will be acknowledged for their exceptional contributions, leadership, and sacrifices over the decades.

The event will convene a distinguished assembly of aviation stakeholders, including international and domestic airlines, airport authorities, ground handling companies, aviation agencies, private sector operators, international development partners, industry experts, and policymakers. Guests will enjoy goodwill messages, documentary showcases, keynote addresses, and the unveiling of special commemorative projects in honour of the centenary.

Speaking ahead of the event, Keyamo described the celebration as an opportunity not only to honour the past but also to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to building a more resilient, secure, and globally competitive aviation sector. He emphasised that the achievements of the last century are a testament to the dedication of industry pioneers and the steadfast support of global and local partners.

The Centenary Celebration is expected to serve as a platform for reflection, recognition, and renewed collaboration as Nigeria lays the groundwork for the next century of aviation excellence—driven by innovation, safety, infrastructure expansion, and strategic partnerships.
