A leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has extended warm felicitations to President Bola Tinubu, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, following Nigeria’s election into the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council for the 2026 to 2027 biennium.
In a statement celebrating the milestone, Oyebamiji described the victory as a clear reflection of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and the exemplary competence, administrative dexterity, and transformative leadership consistently exhibited by Oyetola since assuming office as minister.
Nigeria’s election, which took place during the IMO General Assembly in London, signals the country’s triumphant re-entry into the Council after a 14-year hiatus restoring Nigeria’s influence and visibility within the global maritime community. By securing a seat in Category C, Nigeria now stands alongside 19 other nations recognised for their strategic interests in maritime transport and navigation, as well as their role in promoting balanced geographical representation in the IMO Council.
AMBO lauded President Tinubu’s sweeping socioeconomic reforms, noting that the progress being recorded across sectors underscores the vibrancy and effectiveness of the current administration. He further acknowledged the outstanding achievements of Oyetola in the maritime sector, describing the minister as a model of patriotism, diligence, and visionary leadership whose impact continues to resonate nationally and internationally.
According to him: “This hard-won victory is a testament to President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to re-engineering our national economy and elevating Nigeria’s status globally. It also speaks volumes of the relentless efforts of the Hon. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy in repositioning the maritime sector for competitiveness and global recognition.
“Nigeria’s return to the IMO Council is a reassuring indication that the country is in safe and capable hands under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This development marks a significant leap in our maritime narrative and demonstrates the remarkable work being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
“My boss, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, has once again demonstrated unmatched administrative acumen and leadership prowess in steering the ministry to enviable heights”.
Expressing his joy on behalf of his family and the AMBO Movement, Oyebamiji congratulated both President Tinubu and Minister Oyetola, affirming his belief that Nigeria stands to enjoy even greater benefits as the nation reclaims its place within the IMO Council.
He concluded with confidence that under Oyetola’s stewardship, the maritime sector will continue to scale new heights and deliver on its mandate to drive national integration, economic growth, and sustainable development.
