Prof. Charles Anosike DG/CEO NiMet and Dr. Mahmud Mustafa Head of Missions C-WINS

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS) have formalised a strategic partnership to advance climate action in Nigeria.

The partnership aims to integrate solutions that connect climate, public health, food and nutrition security, soil health, and community resilience.

The core activities of the partnership include developing early-warning systems for local farmers, enabling proactive responses to adverse weather conditions. NiMet and C-WINS will jointly launch community workshops on climate-smart agriculture, where farmers will learn adaptation techniques based on real-time climate data. The partnership aims to increase crop yields in targeted communities and reduce climate-related health incidents by providing timely alerts to farmers and health workers.

The Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, emphasised the importance of integrating climate intelligence to reduce health risks, strengthen food and nutrition security, improve soil health, and enhance disaster resilience. NiMet will provide accurate meteorological data and tailored climate forecasts essential for the success of these interventions.

Head of Missions at C-WINS,. Mahmud Mustafa, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to leveraging NiMet’s forecasts to design practical training programmes for health workers and lead community engagement sessions. The collaborative work will focus on supporting farmers with adaptive practices informed by local climate trends, ensuring that climate information is both accessible and actionable in rural areas.

The partnership is expected to foster higher crop yields, reduced climate-related health risks, and a more informed and resilient population equipped to face the challenges of a changing climate.

By working together, NiMet and C-WINS aim to build a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for Nigerian communities.
