The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has urged for the inclusion of weather-related protocols in Nigeria’s multimodal transportation safety framework.

Speaking at the Multimodal Stakeholders Workshop organised by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on July 31, 2025, in Abuja, Anosike highlighted the significant impact of weather conditions on all modes of transportation, including land, rail, sea, and air.

Anosike emphasised the importance of understanding the interplay between meteorology and multimodal transport for the development of a safe, efficient, and resilient national transportation system. He reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to supporting national safety objectives through the provision of accurate and timely meteorological data.

The NiMet Director General commended the NSIB for its proactive stakeholder engagement and efforts to harmonise national safety regulations with international standards.

He expressed confidence that the workshop’s outcomes would result in practical regulations that enhance transport safety across all sectors in Nigeria, as the NSIB expands its regulatory mandate.
