
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has paid a working visit to the Directorate of General Meteorology in Morocco’s Directorate of General Meteorology.
The visit, which took place on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations Systematic Observation Financing Facility (SOFF) workshop, aimed to strengthen joint collaboration in support of AI-based weather forecasting and early warning systems.
During the meeting the Director General of Morocco’s Directorate of General Meteorology, Mohammed DGKISSI and Anosike discussed potential areas of cooperation, including the implementation of the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) Centre in Abuja, Nigeria, exchange of expertise in data management and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and collaboration in education and training.

Both parties agreed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and establish a framework to foster mutual support in various areas, including numerical weather prediction, agricultural meteorology, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in numerical modelling. The meeting acknowledged the existing cordial relationship between the two organisations and pledged to continue this tie with effective participation in future events.
The visit highlighted the commitment of both countries to enhance cooperation in the field of meteorology and support each other’s initiatives.
