Ugandan travel content creator, Simpo Gladys, has praised the remarkable improvements at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, following her recent visit to Nigeria.
Popular for her travel-focused short videos, Simpo highlighted a significant upgrade in the airport’s operations, attributing the positive shift to the leadership of Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Reflecting on her previous experience two years ago, the influencer alleged that bribery and extortion were rampant among airport personnel during her earlier visit. However, she expressed surprise at the noticeable change in staff conduct this time.
“No one has asked me for a single shilling. The last time I came, they were asking for dollars”, she said.
Sharing her first impressions upon arrival, Simpo described the airport as more organised and professional compared to her 2024 visit. She noted that personnel were courteous and welcoming, with no trace of the harassment she previously encountered.
“I just landed at MMIA, and this is my first impression. I was here two years ago, and a lot was happening then. But coming back now in 2026, the difference is clear. The place is more organised, and the people are more professional”, she added.
She also pointed to ongoing infrastructural upgrades, revealing that parts of the old terminal she used during her last visit have been demolished and are being replaced with modern facilities.
“This time, no one asked me for money -not even one person. Everyone simply welcomed me. I’m really impressed with the change. They are reconstructing the airport into something more modern and beautiful. Compared to two years ago, this is a remarkable improvement”, she said.
Her remarks have since gained traction online, with many observers viewing them as a strong signal of improved service delivery and ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
