Tincan Island Customs Command CAC, Compt. Frank Onyeka

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, has recorded a remarkable revenue performance for February 2026, generating over ₦120.4 billion and reinforcing its position as one of the Service’s top-performing commands.

Official figures released by the Command show a total collection of ₦120,462,054,345.72 for the month, representing a substantial increase from the ₦103,612,383,381.39 recorded in February 2025. The figures indicate a year-on-year growth of more than ₦16.8 billion, reflecting improved efficiency and strengthened revenue mobilisation efforts.

The milestone has been widely attributed to the leadership of the Customs Area Controller, Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, whose administration has focused on tightening operational processes, boosting compliance, and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders across the port value chain.

Industry players note that since assuming office, Onyeka has implemented a series of reforms aimed at blocking revenue leakages and improving transparency. These include the deployment of advanced technology for cargo tracking, stricter monitoring systems, and a more coordinated approach to enforcement and trade facilitation.

His leadership has also prioritised stakeholder engagement, with consistent dialogue between the Command and freight forwarders, importers, and other port users. Observers say this has helped build confidence in the system, encourage voluntary compliance, and reduce bottlenecks in cargo clearance.

Under his watch, the Command has strengthened its anti-smuggling operations while maintaining a balance with trade facilitation—ensuring that legitimate trade is not unduly hindered. This dual approach has contributed significantly to the surge in revenue and overall operational efficiency.

Maritime and logistics stakeholders have described Onyeka’s performance as impactful, citing his hands-on leadership style and firm stance against infractions as key drivers of the Command’s success. They also credit his ability to motivate officers and men of the Command, fostering a culture of accountability and productivity.

Analysts further note that the impressive February figures are not only indicative of increased trade volumes but also a reflection of disciplined administration and effective implementation of fiscal policies.

With the current trajectory, expectations are high that the Tin Can Island Port Command will surpass its revenue targets in the coming months, contributing significantly to national revenue.

The achievement underscores the broader commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to modernise its operations, enhance trade facilitation, and strengthen border security, with Tin Can Island Port emerging as a model of efficiency driven by strong leadership.
