The Publisher of Oriental News Nigeria Online, Mrs. Yemisi Izuora, and the President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, Maureen Chigbo, have called for the adoption of gas as a transition fuel and for household uses.

The duo spoke in separate interviews during the Oriental News Nigeria 2025 conference in Lagos, which focused on integrating Nigeria’s gas potential into strategic energy transition initiatives.

According to Izuora, the organisation supports the energy transition initiative of the federal government, and the conference brought together stakeholders and experts to discuss the transition initiative. She emphasised that gas plays a key role in powering the electricity sector and in transportation through CNG, combustion, and even at home with the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

“To promote gas usage, government should give licenses to more gas producers to bring down the price of gas”, Izuora said. “Governments should also educate people more on the importance of using gas. Many people in rural areas do not have access to gas, and even in urban areas, gas is not affordable to many households”.

Chigbo called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to speed up the move towards the transition to energy. “If you look at the numbers, about 2.3 billion people worldwide are affected by unclean energy, and women and children are the most vulnerable”, she said.

She emphasised the importance of expanding the usage of clean energy, particularly for women, who are disproportionately affected by unclean energy. “It’s essential to discuss ways forward for this transition to clean energy, for women to be better off”, she added.

By promoting the use of gas and clean energy, stakeholders can work towards reducing the negative impacts of unclean energy on households and the environment.
