A new opinion poll conducted by reputable media organisation Standard Post has projected victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), in the August 8, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
According to the poll results, Oyebamiji leads the race with 52 per cent of respondents’ support. The incumbent governor and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, trails with 38 per cent, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ranks third with 8 per cent.
Standard Post explained that the online opinion poll, conducted over the weekend, featured candidates from the three major political parties participating in the off-cycle governorship election. The poll showed that a majority of participating Osun residents favoured the APC candidate.
The media organisation stated that the exercise was professionally conducted, with detailed analysis providing insight into the current political standing of the candidates ahead of the 2026 election.
“From public opinion, political alignment, and on-ground observations, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presently appears to hold a decisive edge in the race,” the report noted.
“A key factor driving this momentum is the renewed unity and organisational strength within the APC”.
The paper added that the party’s cohesion has strengthened grassroots mobilisation across the state, boosting voter confidence in the APC as a credible alternative to the current administration.
Conversely, the report attributed the incumbent governor’s declining support to challenges in critical sectors such as healthcare, housing, and uneven infrastructure development.
Respondents also cited a lack of clear policy direction in education, agriculture, sports development, and other key areas.
“Unlike previous election cycles marked by internal divisions, the party is entering 2026 more cohesive, strategically prepared, and fully mobilised across all local governments”, the report stated, emphasising that this unity is resonating strongly with voters.
Standard Post further observed that growing dissatisfaction with the present administration is shaping voter sentiment statewide.
“These statistics reflect the increasing desire of Osun people for a change in leadership”, the paper said.
“Key concerns include limited job opportunities for youths, a struggling health sector, uneven road infrastructure development largely concentrated in Ede, the abandonment of the Iwo–Osogbo road project, and several unfulfilled campaign promises made by Governor Ademola Adeleke during the 2022 election”.
