United Nigeria Airlines has recorded a major breakthrough in its international expansion drive following its admission into the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreement (MITA) for passenger operations.
The milestone, confirmed via IATA Memorandum ADMIN/INTERLINE/4811, came after the airline successfully met the stringent requirements of Passenger Services Conference (PSC) Resolution 780.
The development effectively positions the airline beyond its domestic operations, opening the door to global collaboration with hundreds of IATA-member carriers.

With its entry into the MITA framework, United Nigeria Airlines can now establish interline and code-share agreements, enabling passengers to book seamless single-ticket journeys across multiple airlines. The arrangement also allows for streamlined baggage transfers and smoother connections between the airline and major international carriers.
Speaking on the achievement, the airline described the development as a transformative step in its evolution.
“This is more than just a regulatory approval; it is a gateway to the world for United Nigeria Airlines. Admission into the MITA network validates our operational standards and aligns us with global best practices in aviation. We are now ready to offer our passengers unparalleled access to global destinations through strategic partnerships”, the airline stated.
The move is expected to significantly expand the carrier’s route network, improve connectivity for travelers, and enhance its capacity to attract international transit passengers.
Industry observers note that the MITA membership marks a critical step in integrating Nigerian carriers into the global aviation ecosystem, while reinforcing United Nigeria Airlines’ ambition to compete on the international stage.
