United Nigeria Airlines has announced a second bird strike within 24 hours involving another Airbus A320 in its fleet, appealing to passengers and the general public for understanding over the resulting operational disruptions.
The airline disclosed that the incident occurred during the take-off of Flight UN0519, scheduled for 12:00 noon on Sunday, 15 February 2026, from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
According to the airline, the bird strike affected one of the aircraft’s engines shortly after departure procedures commenced. In line with its strict safety protocols, the aircraft has been immediately withdrawn from service to undergo comprehensive technical inspections before it is cleared to resume operations.
The development brings to two the number of Airbus aircraft temporarily grounded within the last 24 hours.
As a result, some flights across the airline’s network may experience delays, rescheduling, or cancellations as operational adjustments are implemented.
Although this marks the fourth bird strike recorded by the airline since January 2026, United Nigeria Airlines reiterated that safety remains its highest priority, stressing that it will continue to take every necessary precaution to safeguard passengers, crew, and equipment.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to our valued passengers and stakeholders. Our team is working diligently to minimise disruptions and provide the necessary support and updates to all affected travellers,” the airline stated.
