In recognition of the vital role journalists play as catalysts for growth and innovation in Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Women in Aviation International (WAI), Nigeria Chapter, has honoured distinguished female journalists with the Aviation Media Awards.

The awards were presented during the 2025 WAI Nigeria Annual Conference, held on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, the largest city in West Africa. The event, themed around celebrating excellence and inclusivity, brought together aviation professionals, policymakers, and media practitioners from across the country.

Speaking at the awards ceremony President of WAI Nigeria, Dr. Rejoice Ndudinachi, commended the Nigerian media for their consistent reportage and contribution to promoting the aviation sector.

“The media has played a critical role in spotlighting Nigeria’s aviation on the global stage. Excellence in aviation reporting has been a key driver of some of the major achievements recorded in the industry.
We appreciate the dedication and professionalism of our journalists, particularly women who continue to break barriers and elevate the industry’s image”, Ndudinachi said.

Among the award recipients, Mrs. Nosa Aituamen of Radio Nigeria expressed her gratitude for being recognised, describing the honour as deeply encouraging.

“It is rare for journalists, especially female journalists, to be recognised for their hard work and contributions to industry growth. I thank WAI Nigeria for acknowledging female media practitioners. This will inspire us to do even more”, she said.

Another recipient, Mrs. Pearl Ngwama, Publisher of JustNews Online, noted that female journalists have been exceptional in their coverage of the aviation industry.

“In a dynamic sector like aviation, female journalists have been remarkable in their reportage, driving industry change and drawing global attention to Nigeria’s aviation sector. This recognition affirms that our efforts are not in vain”, Ngwama stated.

Also honoured was Mrs. Olapeju Olubi of FactsEcho Online, who described the award as validation of years of hard work.

“This award is a testament that the efforts of female aviation journalists have been seen and acknowledged. It reminds us that our voices matter and that our work makes an impact”, she said.

Mrs. Kemi Awe of Autoglobe Media Services expressed optimism that the recognition would encourage greater commitment among female journalists.

“This honour will definitely motivate us to do more in reporting aviation. It’s a call to push boundaries and continue telling the stories that matter”, Awe stated.
