The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the reopening of the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal for passenger operations, effective Monday, 19 January 2026, three months after its closure.
In a statement issued by LASWA Management, the authority said the terminal had been closed since 20 October 2025 due to navigational challenges caused by a severe water hyacinth infestation. During the closure, ferry services were temporarily diverted to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty to ensure continuity of operations.
LASWA explained that the decision to reopen the terminal followed the successful clearance of the affected waterway, completion of comprehensive safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“The terminal has now been certified safe for full ferry operations.
“Ferry operators have been directed to resume normal services in line with their approved schedules and to maintain strict compliance with all existing safety and operational requirements.
“The reopening is expected to ease commuter movement and restore normal ferry services for residents and businesses that rely on the Ikorodu route”, the statement read in part.
