Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo

The Honorable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to international civil aviation standards and cooperation during the 42nd Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.

In his address, Keyamo highlighted Nigeria’s significant strides in aviation safety, security, and facilitation. He emphasised the country’s dedication to implementing ICAO’s Global Aviation Safety Plan, Global Air Navigation Plan, and Global Aviation Security Plan.

He also commended the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) for its efforts in promoting the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) and liberalising air transport in Africa. He noted that SAATM would enhance air connectivity, promote tourism, trade, and commerce, and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The Minister called on ICAO to continue supporting developing states, particularly in enhancing safety oversight capabilities, building climate-resilient aviation infrastructure, and accelerating digital transformation.

Nigeria has been a member of the ICAO Council since 1962 and has continued to contribute to the organisation’s work and activities. Keyamo solicited support from ICAO Member States for Nigeria’s re-election into Part 2 of the ICAO Council.

In a gesture of goodwill, Keyamo invited delegates to the first Nigerian International Airshow scheduled to take place in Abuja from December 2nd to 4th, 2025. The event aims to promote aviation innovation, sustainability, and partnerships across borders.

As the aviation industry continues to evolve, Nigeria remains committed to working with other states to achieve a truly global, inclusive, and future-ready aviation ecosystem.
