The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a remarkable 182% increase in revenue generation, from ₦531,462,332.45 in August 2025 to ₦1,500,029,233.88 in September 2025.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command (CAC), Comptroller Wale Adenuga, attributed this significant growth to the Command’s intensified efforts to enhance compliance, transparency, and data-driven monitoring, aligning with the Comptroller General of Customs’ (CGC) reform agenda.

“This outstanding performance reflects the effectiveness of the CGC’s reform agenda built on compliance, transparency, and data-driven monitoring of goods”, Adenuga said. He emphasised that the Command remains resolute in balancing revenue generation, trade facilitation, and national security.

The Command’s anti-smuggling efforts have also yielded significant results, with notable seizures including:

– 10,000 bags of expired flour valued at ₦1.2 billion, intercepted in a joint operation with NAFDAC

– 1,104 parcels of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana)

– 120 packs of Tramadol 120mg

– 2,043 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each)

– 150 bales of second-hand clothing

– 169 bottles of DSP Cough Syrup with Codeine

– 5 used vehicles

The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) for all seizures is ₦1,999,093,429.00. Adenuga emphasised that smuggling is an economic sabotage that robs the nation of vital revenue and endangers public welfare.

“Any economic resource diverted into smuggling will be a colossal waste; it will be better to channel such resources into legitimate business that could empower thousands of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) and create jobs”, he said.

The Command has also facilitated the export of 53,989.46 metric tonnes of goods with a Free on Board (FOB) value of ₦7,969,376,198.78, generating a total Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) fee of ₦39,868,354.42.

Impounded items were handed over to the necessary sister agencies.

Adenuga hailed the expertise of the CGC, especially as the WCO Council chairman, saying that the intelligence information on the expired flour came from him.
