All is set for the 4th edition of the Global Transport Policy (GTP) Annual Multimodal Round Table, as top government officials, industry leaders, and transport experts prepare to converge in Lagos for a landmark dialogue on Nigeria’s transport future.
The high-profile event, scheduled for June 17, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, is expected to attract no fewer than 400 participants and will feature robust discussions on transforming the nation’s transport ecosystem.
Speaking at a pre-event press conference held at BON Hotel, Ikeja, Chairman of Widescope Group, Dr. Segun Musa, described this year’s edition as the most ambitious yet.
“This year’s roundtable is bigger and more strategic. We are bringing together the crème de la crème of the industry to chart a new course for Nigeria’s transport system”, he said.
In a major boost to the event’s profile, Musa disclosed that the Lagos State Governor has confirmed attendance as Special Guest of Honour, marking a departure from previous editions where representation was delegated.
“We have received positive confirmation that the governor himself will attend and participate in these critical discussions,” he noted.
Also expected are four key ministers, including those overseeing Aviation and Aerospace Development, Marine and Blue Economy, Industry, Trade and Investment, and Transportation.
Musa emphasised that the inclusion of local government leadership, particularly the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, reflects a deliberate effort to ensure grassroots participation in transport planning.
“Transport begins at the local level. Integrating local authorities into this conversation is essential for achieving a truly holistic system”, he said.
The Chief Operating Officer of Global Transport Policy, Mr. Mark Onuchi, highlighted the event’s focus on collaboration and innovation, noting that leading transport solution providers and startups will also be in attendance.
He cited potential partnerships between mobility platforms and water transport operators as examples of the integration the roundtable aims to promote.
“We want to see real collaboration—road meeting water, rail connecting seamlessly. This is about building a functioning ecosystem”, Onuchi explained.
Participants will deliberate on key sub-themes including workforce development, integrated mobility systems, and sustainable transport solutions, with expectations that a formal communique will be issued to guide policy direction.
Professor Iyiola Oni of the University of Lagos commended the initiative, describing it as a critical intervention in addressing systemic inefficiencies in Nigeria’s transport sector.
The roundtable is also expected to receive extensive media coverage, underscoring its growing significance as a platform for shaping national transport policy.
