The immediate past President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, has congratulated the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Honourable Adegboyega Oyetola, on his recent victory in winning the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Category ‘C’ Council Seat.
Adeyanju praised the Minister’s exceptional leadership and credited the success to his strong and radical approach, coupled with the efforts of his inter-ministerial campaign committee.
According to Adeyanju, Oyetola’s achievement has brought honour and pride to Nigeria, raising the nation’s maritime industry to new heights. He commended the Minister’s performance, stating that he is one of the President Bola Tinubu Ministers who has made a significant impact.
Adeyanju also acknowledged the coordinated efforts of key stakeholders, including the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho; the Managing Director of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA); the Executive Director of the Shippers Council of Nigeria (SCN); and the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), in achieving this landmark feat.
Adeyanju further urged the federal government to upgrade the Maritime Academy in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, to enable the country’s seafarers and dockworkers to obtain necessary documents locally, rather than travelling to neighbouring countries.
He expressed confidence that with the same efforts that led to the IMO seat success, the government can raise the standard of the Maritime Academy for the benefit of its cadets and seafarers.
