As it marked its 10 years of impactful service to the masses, Primero Transport Services Limited has announced plans to deploy 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in the first quarter of 2026, signalling a major shift towards cleaner, more sustainable public transportation in Lagos State.

The announcement was the high point of the company’s 10th Anniversary Celebration held on Thursday December 11, 2025 at the New BRT Depot, Majidun, Ikorodu Road, where the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Fola Tinubu, outlined an ambitious expansion and technology-driven agenda for the next decade.

According to Tinubu, the introduction of the CNG-powered buses forms part of Primero’s commitment to innovation, environmental sustainability and improved customer experience, as the company positions itself for a larger role in Lagos evolving mass transit system.

“The next decade will be one of expansion, innovative transformation and higher service excellence”, he said, stressing that Primero will invest in modern technology and cleaner energy solutions to support sustainable urban mobility in Lagos State and Nigeria.

Primero began operations in November 2015 following its official inauguration by former Lagos State Governor, Dr. Akinwunmi Ambode, with a mandate to redefine public transportation through the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme. 10 years on, the company has safely and reliably transported millions of passengers and grown into one of Nigeria’s leading BRT operators.

Tinubu described public transportation as a necessity for economic growth and social development, noting that Primero’s journey over the last decade reflects both operational resilience and measurable social impact.

He acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Ministry of Transportation, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), traditional rulers, vendors and suppliers, whose collaboration he said has been critical to the company’s success.

Special recognition was given to Sterling Bank, which Tinubu described as the financial backbone of the company, providing consistent support that enabled Primero to remain operationally resilient despite challenging economic conditions.

He also paid tribute to Primero employees for building a culture of professionalism and accountability, and thanked customers for their loyalty and trust over the years.

With the planned deployment of 100 CNG buses in early 2026, industry stakeholders said Primero is positioning itself at the forefront of cleaner, cost-efficient and future-ready mass transit solutions in Lagos.

“As we celebrate 10 years of impact, we are even more focused on the future”, Tinubu said. “This milestone is not just about where we’ve been, but about where we are going”.
