The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has extended warm yuletide greetings to stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime industry, commending their contributions to the sector’s progress.

Mobereola described 2025 as a successful year for the industry and assured stakeholders that NIMASA would intensify efforts to make 2026 even more impactful for all participants.

Highlighting key milestones recorded in 2025, the NIMASA boss noted the sustained zero tolerance for piracy in Nigerian waters, the deposition of three Instruments of Accession to International Maritime Organisation (IMO) conventions signed by President Bola Tinubu, the maintenance of industrial harmony across the sector, and Nigeria’s election into Category C of the IMO Council.

“The year 2025 has been a good one for our industry. For another full calendar year, we recorded no piracy attacks in our waters. Nigeria also deposited three Instruments of Accession to IMO conventions signed by President Bola Tinubu, maintained industrial harmony, and achieved election into the Category C Council of the International Maritime Organisation”, he said.

Mobereola emphasised that these achievements would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of industry stakeholders. “We could not have done this without our stakeholders who have contributed in various ways through their operations during the year. We appreciate you, we thank you, and we felicitate with you during this yuletide season”, he added.

Looking ahead to the new year, the Director General urged industry operators to remain optimistic, noting that Nigeria’s membership of the IMO Council comes with greater responsibility. According to him, NIMASA is fully aware of these expectations and is committed to sustaining maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and strict adherence to relevant conventions and protocols with renewed vigour.

He concluded by acknowledging the support of President Bola Tinubu; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola; industry stakeholders; NIMASA management and staff; and Nigerians at large, while wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
