DCG Kikelomo Adeola

The Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, Kikelomo Adeola, has emphasised that Post-Clearance Audit (PCA) remains a critical pillar of modern customs administration, supporting informed risk management, strengthening voluntary compliance, and facilitating legitimate trade without compromising revenue assurance.

Adeola laid this emphasis on Monday January 19, 2026, at the commencement of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) World Customs Organisation (WCO) Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme in collaboration with the World Bank Group (WBG).

The programme aims to strengthen trade facilitation, enhance compliance, and deepen customs modernisation in Nigeria.

The training is designed to review previously agreed objectives and confirm the strategic approach for implementing key reform initiatives, particularly in the area of Post-Clearance Audit (PCA).

Adeola who represented the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, noted that the mission underscores the strong partnership between the WCO and the NCS, reflecting their shared commitment to strengthening PCA frameworks, enhancing officers’ technical competencies, and institutionalising best practices.

A Trade Facilitation Expert with the WCO, James Clark, commended the NCS for the significant progress achieved within a short period, highlighting Nigeria’s trade facilitation reforms as a broader national commitment to improving the ease of doing business and aligning customs procedures with global best practices.

The NCS has taken deliberate steps to strengthen Post-Clearance Audit and risk management systems, aiming to enhance compliance, improve revenue collection, facilitate legitimate trade, and safeguard national economic interests.

The week-long programme is expected to further strengthen institutional capacity in audit-driven compliance and trade facilitation, underscoring the NCS’s sustained commitment to collaboration with international partners in driving reforms that promote efficient trade, transparency, and economic growth.
