The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training, capacity development, and service delivery within Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, and the Rector of NCAT, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

The agreement signals a renewed commitment by both institutions to deepen collaboration in critical areas of aviation training and operational excellence.

Under the terms of the MoU, NiMet and NCAT will collaborate in the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes, and deliver specialised long- and short-term courses tailored for NiMet personnel.

The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives, and the utilisation of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)-compliant aviation training.

Key focus areas outlined in the framework include aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, and airport operations. The two institutions will also jointly organise programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to continuous human capital development. He noted that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration, and institutional partnerships remains essential to advancing operational excellence and ensuring safe, efficient air navigation in Nigeria.

The partnership is expected to enhance professional standards, improve technical competence, and further align Nigeria’s aviation training programmes with global best practices.
