The Industry Newspaper, a leading publication covering marketing, media and the business economy, has appointed renowned entrepreneur and educationist, Chief Yomi Otubela, as Chairman of the 2026 edition of its flagship Top 50 Nigerian Companies of Impact initiative.
The annual recognition programme celebrates companies making significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic development through innovation, resilience, job creation, investment and broader societal impact.
The 2026 edition, themed “Building Resilience, Driving Growth: Nigerian Companies Shaping the Next Decade,” will culminate in a special awards and networking luncheon scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Otubela’s appointment brings to the initiative a blend of entrepreneurial leadership, education-sector experience and advocacy for private-sector participation in national development.
He is the President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Lagooz Schools, an education institution recognised for its emphasis on academic excellence, innovation in learning and youth development.
Under his leadership, Lagooz Schools has focused on strengthening curriculum delivery, integrating technology into learning and developing young talents, with the institution impacting thousands of students.
Beyond education, Otubela has emerged as a prominent voice on the role of private enterprise in addressing Nigeria’s human-capital and economic-development challenges. His advocacy has focused on skills development, investment in human capital, enterprise growth and the creation of an enabling environment for businesses to contribute meaningfully to national development.
His appointment as Chairman of the 2026 Top 50 is therefore expected to add a strategic dimension to the recognition programme, particularly as Nigerian businesses contend with a rapidly changing economic environment and the need to build more resilient and sustainable enterprises.
In his capacity as Chairman, Otubela will provide strategic guidance to the selection process, deliver the Chairman’s Address at the awards ceremony and lead discussions around how businesses can deepen their impact through innovation, responsible governance and social responsibility.
Commenting on the appointment, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The Industry Newspaper, Goddie Ofose, said Otubela’s track record made him an appropriate choice to lead an initiative focused on recognising businesses whose contributions extend beyond financial performance.
“We are honoured to have Chief Yomi Otubela chair this year’s Top 50. He embodies the spirit of impact we seek to celebrate — building institutions, empowering people, and creating value that outlives quarterly reports,” Ofose said.
He added that Otubela’s experience across entrepreneurship and education positioned him to provide valuable insight into the companies being recognised.
“His experience as both an entrepreneur and educationist makes him uniquely positioned to spotlight companies that are not just profitable, but purposeful,” he said.
Recognising Business Beyond the Bottom Line
The 2026 Top 50 initiative comes at a time when the role of the private sector in Nigeria’s economic transformation is becoming increasingly important.
Against the backdrop of economic pressures, shifting consumer behaviour, technological disruption and evolving investment priorities, companies are under growing pressure to demonstrate not only commercial viability but also resilience, responsible leadership and measurable impact.
The Industry Newspaper’s Top 50 recognition seeks to capture this broader dimension of corporate performance by highlighting organisations that are contributing to economic activity and national development across multiple sectors.
The 2026 edition will feature leading companies across banking, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, aviation, education and other critical segments of the economy.
The publication said the special edition will be distributed to C-suite executives, investors, policymakers and other key stakeholders in Nigeria and the diaspora, positioning it as a platform for showcasing organisations helping to shape the country’s economic outlook over the next decade.
With Otubela at the helm, the 2026 edition is expected to place greater emphasis on the intersection between corporate performance, innovation, human-capital development and sustainable national impact.
