
The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Bunu Abi, has congratulated women across the globe on the occasion of International Women’s Day, praising their strength, resilience and invaluable role in shaping society.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the union’s Head of Media, John Ikemefuna, Bunu described women as a priceless gift to humanity, whose presence has made the world a better and more meaningful place to live.
According to him, women remain central to the progress and continuity of life, noting that their contributions to family, society and the global community cannot be overemphasised.
He stated that without women, the world would lack balance and vibrancy, stressing that their presence enriches life and strengthens human relationships.
“Women are the most precious gift the Almighty God has bestowed on the planet earth to make the world a beautiful place to live”, he said.
The maritime labour leader further described women as indispensable partners in the advancement of humanity, noting that their roles in nurturing families and contributing to societal development make them truly remarkable.
Abi also urged women to remain strong and continue to demonstrate courage and determination in their various endeavours.
While celebrating women worldwide, he made special reference to female members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, commending them for their dedication and contributions to the maritime sector.
He encouraged them not to relent in their efforts to uphold the values of strength, resilience and professionalism, adding that the union remains proud of its female comrades.
Abi reaffirmed that women remain the “salt of the earth,” emphasising that their presence continues to add meaning, purpose and vitality to the world.
