The Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and immediate past President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, Comrade (Prince) Adewale Adeyanju, has used the occasion of Eid-Fitr to preach forgiveness and peace among Nigerians and the global community.
In a statement, Adeyanju emphasised that the world would continue to experience turmoil without peace, as advocated by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). He urged Muslims to emulate the virtues of the Holy Prophet in their daily lives, embracing other faiths for peaceful coexistence, and warned that there is a judgement after death, hence the need for Muslims to adhere to the teachings of the Quran.
The Labour leader described Islam as a religion of peace, stressing that Allah, the Creator of humanity, did not deputise anyone to carry out justice on His behalf. He condemned acts of terrorism, kidnapping, and other heinous crimes, urging perpetrators to seek repentance and forgiveness.
Adeyanju also called on warring factions in Nigeria to drop arms and engage in dialogue, citing the spirit of Ramadan and Eid-Fitr. He prayed for peace between Israel and Iran, saying they share a common heritage, and urged Muslims worldwide to celebrate Eid-Fitr with peace, becoming agents of change for global peace.
He thanked Nigerian Muslims for adhering to the Quran’s tenets, wishing all a Happy Sallah.
