The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded major breakthroughs in its anti-smuggling operations, seizing contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over ₦2.53 billion while generating ₦14.7 billion in revenue within the review period.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Command’s operational headquarters in Ibadan on Thursday, the Acting Customs Area Controller, W.M.Adewole, said intensified surveillance and enforcement across Oyo and Osun states led to the significant interceptions.

He disclosed that the seizures, made in line with provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, included 1,603 bags of foreign parboiled rice, large quantities of used clothing and shoes, 1,351 used tyres, and 206 used compressors.

Other items intercepted include 1,144 wraps of cannabis sativa, multiple variants of synthetic cannabis, 3,300 packs and 2,140 sachets of tramadol, 692 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (17,300 litres), 2,270 packs of foreign textiles, and 20 bags of sugar.

The Command also seized several vehicles, including a Lexus Jeep, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Hiace Bus, DAF truck, Toyota Avensis, Chevrolet car, and additional vehicles used as means of conveyance for smuggling activities.

According to the Customs boss, the total DPV of the seizures stood at ₦2,531,091,846, describing the feat as a result of credible intelligence and coordinated patrol operations across the two states.

On revenue performance, he revealed that the Command generated ₦14,745,741,806.05 during the period, representing a 46.22 percent increase compared to ₦10.1 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.

Adewole attributed the growth to strengthened efforts in blocking revenue leakages, enforcing compliance, and facilitating legitimate trade.

He issued a stern warning to smugglers and economic saboteurs, stressing that the Command would sustain its crackdown on illegal activities and continue to enforce government fiscal policies.

The Controller also urged members of the public to support Customs operations by providing timely intelligence, noting that adherence to import and export regulations remains the best safeguard against sanctions.

He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and support, while also appreciating traditional rulers and stakeholders in Oyo and Osun states for their cooperation in promoting lawful trade.

The Command, he assured, remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and integrity in the discharge of its duties.
