A 28-year-old man’s attempt at workplace “revenge” has landed him in police custody after he allegedly stole high-tech equipment worth over ₦15 million from his former employer, Vovida Communications Limited.
The suspect, George Ikpe, was apprehended by operatives of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Police Division on April 3, 2026, following a targeted intelligence operation and a review of the company’s security footage.
The Heist and the Footage
According to official reports, Ikpe gained unauthorised access to the premises of Vovida Communications, an IT solutions firm located within the airport axis. While the suspect may have thought he moved in shadows, the company’s CCTV system captured his every move, providing the “smoking gun” investigators needed to confirm his identity.
The haul included:
- Two Custom Vovida CPUs: Valued at ₦10,357,000
- High-end Printer: Valued at ₦4,715,000
- Total Estimated Loss: ₦15,072,000
A Motive of Malice
Upon his arrest, Ikpe confessed to the crime, citing bitterness over the termination of his employment. Driven by a desire for “revenge”, he targeted the expensive hardware. While police successfully recovered the two CPUs following the suspect’s disclosure, the high-end printer had unfortunately already been sold off.
Police Issue Stern Warning
The Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command, CP Olufunke Ogunbode, made it clear that the airport environment is no playground for criminals.
”The Command will not back down on ensuring criminal elements have no safe haven within the airport and its environs”, she stated.
According to her, the suspect will be charged in court immediately after investigations are concluded. The Commissioner also urged the public to stay vigilant, noting that “timely reporting” is the most effective weapon in the police’s recovery toolkit.
The Airport Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a secure, crime-free gateway for all travellers and businesses.
