Boeing has commenced the first tranche of its advanced technical training programme in Lagos, reinforcing its commitment to aviation safety, operational excellence, and workforce development in Nigeria and across Africa.

The training, scheduled to run from June 16 to July 29, will see 16 engineers from United Nigeria Airlines and ValueJet undergo intensive instruction on the Boeing 737 Next-Generation (737NG) aircraft.

Upon completion, participants will be awarded European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) theoretical training certificates. A second tranche of the programme is expected later in the year.

The initiative is part of a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding between Boeing and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development aimed at strengthening the country’s aviation sector through technical collaboration and capacity building.

The comprehensive curriculum covers key aspects of the Boeing 737NG, including avionics, airframe, powerplant, and electrical systems. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of aircraft characteristics, system operations, component locations, servicing procedures, and testing protocols, alongside best practices in ramp and transit maintenance to enhance dispatch reliability.

In addition, the programme incorporates critical modules on safety precautions, human factors, and operational best practices tailored to engineers operating under EASA Part 66 regulations for B1 and B2 licensed maintenance personnel.

Speaking on the initiative, Anbessie Yitbarek подчеркed the importance of investing in technical capability and safety leadership to ensure sustainable growth in Africa’s aviation industry.

“Nigeria remains one of Africa’s most important aviation markets, and Boeing is proud to support the development of highly skilled local engineering talent that will strengthen operational reliability and safety standards across the region”, he said.
