…targets regional, international expansion as engineers undergo Boeing 737 technical training

ValueJet has announced plans to introduce Boeing 737 aircraft into its fleet as part of an ambitious expansion programme that will significantly increase its capacity, extend its route network and accelerate its drive to become one of Africa’s leading regional airlines. The airline said the arrival of the Boeing aircraft marks a major milestone in its growth strategy, enabling it to serve more passengers, transport larger cargo volumes and launch new regional and international destinations across the continent.
Building on the success of its Bombardier CRJ fleet, which has powered its domestic and West African operations since the airline commenced commercial services, ValueJet said the Boeing 737 will provide the additional capacity and range required to meet the growing demand for air travel.
As part of preparations for the fleet expansion, the airline’s aircraft maintenance engineers are currently undergoing an intensive Boeing technical training programme in Lagos. The training, facilitated by Boeing in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, focuses on the Boeing 737 Next Generation (737NG) aircraft.
The programme covers avionics, airframe, powerplant systems, electrical systems, maintenance procedures, safety protocols and operational best practices in line with European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards.
Managing Director and Accountable Officer of ValueJet, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, described the planned induction of the Boeing aircraft as a defining moment in the airline’s journey.”The arrival of Boeing aircraft into our fleet represents an exciting new chapter for ValueJet. Since commencing operations with our CRJ aircraft, we have remained focused on building a safe, reliable and customer-centric airline.
“As we prepare to induct the Boeing aircraft, we are also investing in our people by ensuring our engineers receive world-class training that will enable us to maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability and operational excellence”, he said.
According to him, the investment positions the airline for its next phase of growth while reinforcing its commitment to delivering an exceptional travel experience.
Chairman of ValueJet, Hon. Adekunle Soname, said the acquisition is more than a fleet expansion, describing it as a strategic investment that will strengthen the airline’s regional ambitions.”The introduction of the Boeing aircraft is more than a fleet expansion; it is a strategic investment in the future of ValueJet. These aircraft will significantly enhance our capacity and range, enabling us to connect more African cities while supporting trade, tourism and economic integration across the continent.
We are building an airline that will proudly connect Nigeria with Africa and beyond”, Soname said. The airline disclosed that the Boeing aircraft will support the launch of new services to Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, Libreville in Gabon, Douala in Cameroon, as well as destinations in Kenya and South Africa, among others, as part of its long-term strategy to deepen air connectivity across Africa.
ValueJet currently operates domestic services linking Lagos with Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Calabar, Kano, Jos, Benin City and Gateway International Airport, Iperu, while its regional network includes Accra, Ghana, and Banjul, The Gambia.
The airline said the fleet expansion and route development programme underscore its commitment to promoting tourism, trade, investment and seamless air connectivity across the African continent.
