“Medium-duty truck offers greater efficiency, versatility and lower operating costs for fleet operators”

Weststar Associates Limited, the authorised general distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Nigeria, has launched the new Mercedes-Benz Atego 1726, expanding its commercial vehicle portfolio with a medium-duty truck designed to meet the growing demands of Nigeria’s transport, logistics and industrial sectors.
The new Atego 1726 replaced the Atego 1725, a model widely recognised by fleet operators for its durability and reliability. According to Weststar, the latest model delivers significant improvements in engineering, drivetrain technology and operational efficiency, enabling businesses to enhance productivity while reducing operating costs.
Designed for a wide range of commercial applications, the Atego 1726 is suitable for distribution and FMCG logistics, beverage transportation, refrigerated haulage, construction, municipal services, oil and gas operations, crane services and specialised tipper applications.

The truck is powered by the proven Mercedes-Benz OM 926 six-cylinder, 7.2-litre diesel engine, producing 256 horsepower and 900Nm of torque. It also features the optional High-Performance Engine Brake, designed to improve vehicle control, particularly when operating on difficult terrain or transporting heavy loads, while reducing brake wear and maintenance costs.
With a Gross Vehicle Weight of 17.1 tonnes and a highly adaptable chassis-cab configuration, the Atego 1726 offers operators the flexibility to customise the vehicle for diverse business needs.
Customers can also choose from Classic, Comfort and Standard cockpit configurations to provide drivers with greater comfort during long-distance operations.
Speaking on the launch, the Head of Commercial Vehicles at Weststar Associates Limited, Mr. Umoh Ekanem, said the introduction of the new Atego 1726 reflects the company’s commitment to delivering reliable, efficient and high-performance commercial vehicles for Nigerian businesses.
“The introduction of the new Mercedes-Benz Atego 1726 demonstrates our continued commitment to providing Nigerian businesses with commercial vehicles that deliver outstanding reliability, efficiency and performance.

“The Atego has long been recognised as a dependable workhorse, and this latest model builds on that legacy by offering improved technology, greater versatility and enhanced productivity”, he said.
Ekanem expressed confidence that the truck would continue to support businesses across multiple sectors while delivering the premium quality, durability and operational efficiency associated with the Mercedes-Benz brand.
Weststar noted that the Atego remains one of Mercedes-Benz’s most versatile medium-duty trucks globally, combining strength, flexibility and cost efficiency to help fleet operators improve performance and reduce total ownership costs.
The company added that customers purchasing the Atego 1726 will continue to benefit from its nationwide after-sales support network, including genuine spare parts, technical expertise and professional fleet support.
