As part of the ongoing efforts to modernise aviation infrastructure across the country, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Thursday July 3, 2025 laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new protocol lounge at the Sokoto  Airport.

This formed part of the Minister’s working visit to Sokoto where he 

was warmly received by the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Sokoto, as the visit coincided with the Governor’s second year anniversary in office. The event underscored the spirit of collaboration between the federal government and state governments in delivering quality infrastructure that enhances air travel, safety, and passenger experience.

Accompanying the Honourable Minister on the visit were the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, as well as top directors of the Authority.

The Minister noted that the airport is a gateway not just to Sokoto, but to the entire North-Western region. These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for enhancing passenger experience and facilitating regional development.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, state officials, aviation stakeholders, and members of the press. The Minister’s visit reflects the federal government’s continued investment in aviation infrastructure as a critical driver of economic growth, regional integration, and national pride.
