
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its dedication to facilitating legitimate trade through strict adherence to regulatory compliance, as the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, met with officers and critical stakeholders during his official working visit to the Kano/Jigawa Area Command.
At the stakeholders’ engagement held on Thursday, December 19, 2025, the Comptroller General stressed that sustainable trade facilitation must be rooted in transparency, integrity, and unwavering compliance with Customs laws and operational procedures.
Addressing officers of the Command, Adeniyi urged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and commitment in the discharge of their duties, noting that the reputation and effectiveness of the Service are a direct reflection of the conduct of its personnel. He emphasised that integrity and dedication remain fundamental to achieving both national development and efficient trade processes.

The Comptroller General commended the Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, for his exemplary leadership, particularly in revenue generation and stakeholder engagement. He described the Controller as one of the top-performing officers in the Service, noting that his innovative approach to stakeholder relations earned him recognition as the best Area Controller in stakeholder management at the Service’s recent awards ceremony.
During the interactive session, Adeniyi reaffirmed the Service’s openness to constructive ideas and innovations aimed at easing legitimate trade, provided such initiatives fully comply with established regulations. He noted that compliance remains the non-negotiable foundation upon which trade facilitation initiatives are built.
Highlighting ongoing reforms, the Comptroller General explained that the deployment of the indigenous Customs clearance platform, B’Odogwu, has significantly improved transparency and operational efficiency. He also disclosed that the use of electronic tracking devices for transit containers has already led to the interception of diverted consignments and the arrest of offenders, adding that technology will continue to play a critical role in strengthening enforcement and accountability.

In his remarks, Abubakar, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their sustained cooperation, describing them as indispensable partners in the successful execution of the Command’s mandate. He noted that the level of collaboration in Kano reflects mutual trust, shared responsibility, and collective commitment to national economic objectives.
