Erudite Business Administrator cum oil/gas expert, Mr. Humphrey Okposo, has bagged the prestigious Crawford University honorary doctorate degree at the recent 16th convocation ceremony of the University held at Faith City, Igbesa, Ogun State.

Okposo who is the Managing Director/CEO, Atlantic Marine & Oilfield Services Limited was honoured as a Doctor of Business Administration alongside Prof. Jerry Gana and Arc. Toyin Ajayi.

Okposo is recognised as a skilled and consummate professional in the Subsea industry with a sterling reputation of over 25 years in the offshore Driving and Robotics subsector of the industry in Nigeria and the West African sub region.

He has managed subsea projects with Atlantic Marine from Undersea and Deepwater Inspections, Underwater Maintenance works, Subsea Repair and Construction and Offshore Decommissioning projects.

Atlantic Marine, a company he founded over 25 years ago, has a global reach in the Subsea Engineering industry with staff presence in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, the Emirates, Egypt, Ghana and Nigeria.

Consequently, his company is a member of the International Marine Contractors Associations (IMCA), where only five Nigerian companies have attained this status in the Diving and ROV division.

He studied Business Administration at the University of Lagos where he graduated with a second-class upper Bachelors degree in 1983 and Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with merit in 1985.

Okposo has lived all his life in the private sector where he started his professional career in his father’s company, a Cathodic Protection/Corrosion Engineering Company in 1986. He was tasked early with a leadership role to commercialise the company’s operations and his love for the oceans and seas started here as he was tickled immensely to explore the Subsea Industry thereafter.

However, after his short stint delving into corrosion control, he changed employment to work as a chief store keeper for Afprint Nigeria late 1986, where he was charged as one of the only two of the company’s first university graduates to modernise the inventory department of the company. He did this for six months and was poached by Citibank Nigeria in 1987 to become a banker.

In Citibank he held positions of the branch marketing manager at the Victoria Island branch and branch marketing manager at the Apapa and Ikeja branches and later at the Port Harcourt branch. He left the bank in 1991.

In 1994 Okposo founded and incorporated Atlantic Marine & Oilfield Services Ltd; a company that has grown from its startup in 1994 to a force that now employs over a 100 Subsea professionals.

The fully equipped subsea and offshore projects company has designed and built a first in Nigeria Light Dive Boat; the MV Enigheno Florence, which Okposo named after his mother, Florence and grandmother, Enigheno.

His wealth of experience has been nothing short of exceptional in terms of excellence, quality and integrity which have continued to distinguish him for prestigious awards, both locally and internationally.

Okposo is a member of the National Institute of Credit Administration and a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, USA.
