
Nigeria’s aviation sector recorded a major milestone on Saturday as the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, joined Umo Eno for the inaugural international flight from Victor Attah International Airport to Kotoka International Airport.
The landmark event officially marks the commencement of international flight operations from Uyo, positioning Akwa Ibom State as an emerging hub for regional and global air connectivity.
Described as a significant breakthrough, the development reflected sustained investment in aviation infrastructure by the state government and aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at boosting economic diversification and connectivity.
Industry stakeholders say the new international route is expected to stimulate tourism, enhance trade and investment opportunities, create jobs, and deepen regional integration within West Africa.
The inaugural flight to Accra was met with excitement, drawing dignitaries, aviation stakeholders, and passengers who gathered to witness what is being hailed as a new chapter in Nigeria’s aviation growth.
The event underscores the increasing role of subnational governments in driving infrastructure development and expanding Nigeria’s aviation footprint beyond traditional gateways.
