The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) mourns the demise of former Director General of the defunct Nigerian Maritime Agency (NMA), now NIMASA, Ferdinand Agu, who died after a brief illness.
Agu who has been described by his numerous successors as a very kindhearted public servant in NMA was a trained Architect.
A workaholic while in office Agu was very committed to excellence, diligence and perfection always had also made the welfare of his workers a priority.
The President General (PG) of MWUN, Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, stated that Ferdinand was a guru in the Maritime Sector, who took his time in transforming the industry, which most of his predecessors are now building upon after he exited the foremost maritime agency in the country.
During the maiden Stakeholders engagement in Eko Hotel, Victoria Island by the present Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, he was present alongside his colleagues, who formed a consortium of retired director generals on the day of the memorable event.
Adeyanju, who also doubles as the Deputy President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) spotted them as they were seated, and on a lighter mood, jokingly referred to the consortium as Association of Veterans of former Directors General of NIMASA, saying Ferdinand Agu is the President – General of the Association; and may be as time goes on the Secretary General of the consortium will be unveiled to us; and there was a very loud ovation and applause from the audience including the late Agu and his colleagues.
This shot was inter-laded while the PG was delivering his speech in the occasion.
Little did anyone knew on the day that Ferdinand was going to exit the planet so soon.
The PG of MWUN is deeply pained over Ferdinand’s death and as MWUN mourns, the numero uno of the maritime labour leader prays that the Almighty God grants him eternal rest in peace and also give his immediate family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
