The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that Nigeria will be hosting the seventh (7th) edition of the African-Indian Ocean (AFI) Region Member States for the forthcoming Aviation Week.
The NCAA in a statement said the Federal Ministry of Aviation (FMA) in conjunction with the NCAA and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will be hosting the Directors General of Civil Aviation Authorities, Aviation Safety and Security Representatives, Aviation Experts of African-Indian Ocean (AFI) Region Member States, and other Representatives and experts from International/Regional Organisations during the week..
This global event which is seventh in its series is slated for Monday, 16th to Friday, 20th May, 2022 at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to the statement from NCAA signed by its General Manager, Public Relations, Mr. Sam Adurogboye, this year’s AFI week will engage all participants in discussing important issues like progress made in implementing the ICAO global and regional Plan, enhancement of aviation performance in all ICAO strategic objectives, key priorities for the coming years, COVID-19 aviation recovery and building back better and the outcome of the ICAO High-Level Conference on COVID – 19 (HLCC) 2021 amongst others.
The event will also cover several important meetings including:
* The Ninth Meeting of the AFI Directors-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA/9).
* The 25th Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Safety in Africa (AFI Plan).
* The 11th Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Security and Facilitation in Africa (AFI SECFAL Plan).
* Aviation Symposium
It stated that attendance of this event will avail directors general of Civil Aviation Authorities the opportunity to brainstorm and chart a course aimed at further developing the appropriate strategies and providing the necessary actions to support the enhancement of the aviation system in Africa.
The highlight of this auspicious event will, the statement added, include signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Nigeria and some notable countries.
Meanwhile, only the opening session holding on Monday 16th of May is opened to the public after which the delegates will break into technical sessions, the statement highlighted.
