A source close to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has revealed the plot by faceless fifth columnists using phantom unions to wage ethnic war against the agency’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike.
It was gathered that the alleged call for Anosike’s removal by the Joint Action Congress (JAC), purportedly representing NiMet workers, was an underground work of these columnists using the unions as mere fronts for individuals with an ethnic agenda, bent on destabilising NiMet and Unseat Anosike due to his Igbo heritage.
“Since his appointment in December 2023, Anosike has faced relentless challenges and battles orchestrated by these fifth columnists. Despite inheriting unresolved legacy issues, he has made significant strides in transforming NiMet into a digitally compliant weather and climate forecast agency.
“His administration has prioritized staff welfare and training, earning praise from legitimate labour unions”, the source disclosed.
He quoted a media statement dated August 12, 2024, signed by the Secretary of the NiMet Unions Joint Action Committee (NJAC), Comrade Okechukwu Nwokoro, expressing profound gratitude to Anosike for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of employees. “The unions commended his efforts in resolving long-standing welfare issues, saying it had greatly alleviated the financial challenges faced by our workforce and renewed our hope and commitment to serving the nation with excellence”, the source said.
However, the source pointed out that the same individuals behind the phantom unions have falsely labeled Anosike as “incompetent” over legacy issues his administration inherited.
“Sources suggest that these individuals feel entitled to control NiMet and are frustrated that Anosike has not allowed them to continue with “business as usual.”
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed Anosike, is aware of his professional competence. Anosike has been performing beyond expectations, and his tenure has seen significant improvements in NiMet’s operations.
“The question remains: will these phantom unions succeed in their ethnic agenda, or will Anosike continue to lead NiMet towards greater heights? One thing is certain – Nigeria belongs to all of us, and Anosike’s Igbo heritage should not be a basis for his removal”, the source concluded.
