The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has congratulated the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, on the extension of his tenure, describing the move as well-deserved and timely.

In a statement signed by its National President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, the association praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the extension, noting that it reflects confidence in Adeniyi’s leadership and reform-driven approach.

APFFLON said the Customs boss has, under his leadership, driven significant improvements in revenue generation, trade facilitation, stakeholder engagement, anti-smuggling operations and modernisation of customs processes.

According to the association, these reforms have contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic growth and strengthened the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Customs Service.

While commending the extension, APFFLON urged the Customs leadership to prioritise the welfare of officers, particularly in the areas of healthcare and insurance.

The group called for the introduction of comprehensive and lifelong medical care programmes for both serving and retired personnel, stressing that the nature of customs duties exposes officers to significant risks and health challenges.

It also advocated stronger insurance schemes and improved welfare packages to provide financial security and peace of mind for officers who safeguard the nation’s borders and economic interests.

APFFLON noted that the tenure extension offers an opportunity for the Customs leadership to leave a lasting legacy, not only through institutional reforms and revenue performance but also through improved welfare and well-being of its workforce.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Customs Service in advancing trade facilitation, economic development and stakeholder collaboration within the maritime and logistics sector.

It expressed optimism that Adeniyi’s extended tenure would further consolidate ongoing reforms and deliver greater value to both the Service and the Nigerian economy.
