… as UN agency promises collaboration with Nigeria in sustaining successes in maritime 

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR (right) and the  Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation, IMO, H.E. Arsenio Dominguez during a courtesy visit by the Secretary General of the IMO to the Nigerian President in Lagos.

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to developing Nigeria’s maritime sector as a viable alternative to fossil energy.

The President said this while receiving the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), H.E. Arsenio Domínguez, in Lagos. 

He noted that the recent signing of the National Maritime Policy was a deliberate step to entrench global best practices and strengthen the competitiveness of the Nigerian maritime industry.

The IMO Secretary General commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for its remarkable achievements in maritime safety and security, particularly in safeguarding the Gulf of Guinea. He assured that the United Nations agency remains ready to collaborate with Nigeria in sustaining the recent successes recorded in the sector.

The meeting was attended by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and other industry leaders, including the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dansoho, and the Managing Director of NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji. 

The President and the IMO Secretary General discussed ways to further develop Nigeria’s maritime sector and strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and the IMO.
