Comptroller Godwin Otunla, the distinguished Customs Area Controlller (CAC) of Murtala Muhammed Command, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication to national economic growth.

Since joining the service as a cadet officer, Otunla’s career has been marked by diligence, discipline, and a deep understanding of operational dynamics. These qualities prepared him for leadership roles, which he now commands with distinction.

As CAC of Ogun 1 Command, Otunla implemented strategic reforms that dramatically boosted revenue generation. The Command’s revenue surged from ₦213 billion in 2024 to ₦326 billion by the end of his tenure on December 3, 2025. This remarkable growth was driven by efforts to plug revenue leakages, enforce compliance, and streamline trade documentation processes.

Under Otunla’s leadership, the Command also intensified its anti-smuggling efforts, recording 161 seizures, including 3,699 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and 150 sacks of Indian hemp. He fostered a culture of professionalism and accountability within the Command while prioritising inter-agency collaboration and community relations.

Otunla’s people-oriented approach and commitment to trade facilitation earned him recognition as one of the finest minds to lead the Ogun 1 Command. He strengthened ties with Benin Republic’s Customs authorities to curb cross-border smuggling and enhance legitimate trade.

As he takes over the Muritala Muhammed International Airport Command, Otunla pledged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and service delivery, focusing on trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-corruption efforts.
