Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has raised the bar in Africa’s aviation industry with the attainment of the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification.

With this milestone, SAHCO becomes the only aviation ground handling company in Nigeria and one of the very few across Africa to achieve the globally acclaimed information security standard.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 represents the international benchmark for managing information security. It provides a robust framework for protecting sensitive data, mitigating cybersecurity risks, and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information. In today’s highly digital and interconnected aviation ecosystem, where technology underpins flight operations, cargo processing, passenger services, and regulatory communications, the certification is pivotal to safeguarding operational systems and stakeholder data.

The certification followed a comprehensive audit and compliance assessment by a globally accredited certification body, during which SAHCO successfully satisfied all stringent requirements. The achievement underscores the company’s steadfast commitment to cyber resilience, operational excellence, and world-class service delivery.

In aviation ground handling where digital platforms drive safety procedures, cargo logistics, and airline coordination—information security is not optional but fundamental. By earning ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, SAHCO has demonstrated industry-leading capacity to identify vulnerabilities, deploy preventive controls, and sustain business continuity amid evolving cyber threats.

This latest accomplishment complements SAHCO’s array of internationally recognised certifications, including ISAGO, RA3, EMS, QMS, SMS, ISO, SON, and several others further cementing its reputation as a compliance-driven and quality-focused organisation.

The certification confirms that SAHCO has established, implemented, and continually enhances a comprehensive information security framework that protects critical data belonging to customers, airline partners, regulators, and stakeholders.

Speaking on the landmark achievement, Executive Director, Babatunde Afolabi, emphasised that information security extends beyond technology. “Information security is not just an IT function; it is an organisational responsibility.

“Every employee plays a role in protecting our systems and customer data. Through structured training, strict policies, and continuous monitoring, we have built a proactive security culture that supports safe, secure, and reliable aviation operations”, he stated.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification spans SAHCO’s core operational areas, including cargo handling operations, customer information management, operational systems, and critical corporate support services.

Its implementation involved extensive risk assessments, deployment of advanced security controls, staff awareness initiatives, incident response planning, business continuity strategies, and continuous monitoring systems aligned with global best practices.

With this milestone, SAHCO joins an elite league of global aviation ground handling service providers operating under internationally certified information security standards.

The achievement not only reinforces its leadership in Nigeria but also positions the company as a trailblazer in Africa’s aviation ground handling sector setting a new benchmark for secure, innovative, and compliant service delivery across the continent.
