
In a proactive move to strengthen collaboration and address operational challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) convened a high-level stakeholder meeting on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the AVSEC Training Centre, ITZ, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Adebola Agunbiade, led the engagement alongside key members of FAAN’s management team.
Other senior officials present included the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Emiola Luqman; Director of Aviation Security Services, Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd); Director of Special Duties, Obiageli Orah; Director of Cargo Developments and Services, Olalekan Thomas; Director of Corporate Services, Jensen Asaba; and the Regional General Manager, North Central/Airport Manager of NAIA, Danjuma Ahmadu.
The meeting addressed critical operational issues affecting airport efficiency, including infrastructure development, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) activities, apron access control, compliance with home-based aircraft parking, and cargo development strategies.
Key aviation stakeholders such as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Customs Service, airlines, and construction firm Julius Berger Nigeria actively participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, stakeholders called for FAAN’s continued support in protecting business interests within the airport environment while encouraging greater private sector participation in developing critical infrastructure such as aprons and taxiways.
FAAN also unveiled plans for major infrastructure projects at the airport, including a dedicated cargo and freight centre, a second runway, additional hangars, and improved access roads aimed at boosting operational capacity and positioning NAIA for future growth.
Participants described the meeting as a positive step towards strengthening cooperation within the aviation ecosystem and urged FAAN to sustain the engagement through regular stakeholder fora.
Speaking on behalf of the FAAN Managing Director, Agunbiade expressed appreciation to all participants and reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to continuous dialogue and collaboration to enhance service delivery across the aviation sector.
