SIFAX Group and its Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, delivered a standout performance at the Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA) 2025, securing three major accolades in recognition of their far-reaching impact on Nigeria’s maritime and corporate sectors.

At the Lagos ceremony, SIFAX Group was named Most Corporate Social Responsibility-Friendly Company, while Dr. Afolabi clinched two top individual honours – Lifetime Maritime Award and Maritime Man of the Year.

Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Media Limited, Elder Asu Beks, revealed that Dr. Afolabi emerged Maritime Man of the Year after an “overwhelming” endorsement by industry stakeholders following a rigorous 60-day voting process.

According to the award citation, the honours reflect Afolabi’s enduring commitment to advancing Nigeria’s maritime industry and his vision of positioning the country as a leading maritime hub in sub-Saharan Africa.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the Chairman and the company, Captain Ibraheem Olugbade, Executive Director of Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, expressed gratitude to the organisers and conveyed Afolabi’s appreciation for the recognition.

He described the triple honours as a testament to decades of visionary leadership and SIFAX Group’s consistent contributions across the maritime and logistics value chain.

“These awards are deeply appreciated and validate Dr. Taiwo Afolabi’s long-standing contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s maritime and logistics industry”, Olugbade said.
