The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has called for stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force to enhance security across the country’s airports.
Kuku made the call on Tuesday while receiving the Commander of the National Air Defence Corps, Japhet Ekwuribe, during a courtesy visit aimed at deepening operational ties between both institutions.
She noted that the evolving nature of security threats within airport environments requires sustained partnerships, intelligence sharing, and coordinated responses.

“Addressing today’s security challenges demands stronger collaboration and proactive engagement among key stakeholders”, she said.
Kuku highlighted critical areas of cooperation, including airside patrol support, improved communication on sensitive flight operations, and enhanced monitoring of airport perimeters.
She also raised concerns over increasing land encroachment around airport facilities, describing it as a growing threat that requires urgent, collective action to protect vital aviation infrastructure.

According to her, FAAN remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the Air Force to ensure safety and operational efficiency across Nigeria’s airports.
Responding, Ekwuribe commended FAAN’s leadership for its proactive approach to aviation safety and described the engagement as a timely opportunity to reinforce institutional collaboration.
He said closer cooperation would significantly improve surveillance, response capabilities, and overall security effectiveness within the aviation system.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuous engagement and the development of practical frameworks to safeguard airport operations.
The meeting underscored a shared resolve by FAAN and the Nigerian Air Force to bolster security architecture and ensure a safer, more resilient aviation environment nationwide.
