Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Frank Onyeka, on Friday formally handed over leadership of the Tincan Island Port Command after overseeing a landmark revenue performance that exceeded annual targets and strengthened trade compliance at one of Nigeria’s busiest seaports.

At a handover ceremony to Comptroller Joe Anani, Onyeka, recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General, highlighted that the Command generated N1.609 trillion in 2025, surpassing its target of N1.524 trillion. He added that the Command sustained the momentum into 2026, raking in N401.01 billion in the first quarter alone.

He attributed the revenue growth to “discipline, intelligence-driven operations, enhanced compliance strategies, and robust stakeholder engagement”, noting that the Command balanced enforcement with trade facilitation to improve efficiency across port operations.

Beyond revenue, Onyeka said the Command recorded major enforcement gains, including the seizure of illicit drugs and prohibited items valued at over N35 billion, reinforcing the NCS’s role in safeguarding national security and disrupting transnational criminal networks.

The outgone controller also emphasised improved collaboration with port stakeholders – freight forwarders, terminal operators, shipping firms, and other government agencies which he said boosted compliance levels and reduced operational bottlenecks.

On institutional development, he noted investments in personnel training and capacity building, alongside support for welfare initiatives under the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), aimed at strengthening morale and productivity within the Service.

The new ACG expressed appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and support, describing his tenure as “impactful and fulfilling”.

Handing over to Anani, he urged officers, stakeholders, and the trading community to extend full cooperation to sustain and surpass the Command’s achievements.

“As I assume higher responsibilities, I remain available for guidance and support”, Onyeka said, expressing confidence that the Command would continue to build on its revenue gains and operational reforms.
