United Nigeria Airlines has marked a significant milestone in its growth journey with the arrival of a newly acquired Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, further strengthening its expanding fleet and operational capacity.

The aircraft, bearing registration numbers 5N-CFC and 5N-CFB, have been uniquely dedicated to two iconic figures: His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha and revered custodian of Igbo cultural heritage, and the late Professor Chinua Achebe, Africa’s literary legend whose works reshaped global perceptions of the continent. This dual honour transforms the aircraft into powerful flying symbols of heritage, excellence, and national pride.

More than a routine fleet addition, the Boeing 737-800 introduces increased capacity, enhanced passenger comfort, and improved operational reliability, aligning with the airline’s commitment to delivering a seamless and premium travel experience.

The aircraft touched down at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2), Lagos, on June 13, 2026, and is scheduled for an official unveiling on Thursday, June 18, in a high-profile ceremony expected to host the Obi of Onitsha, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, and other key industry stakeholders.

Speaking ahead of the unveiling, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Adedayo Olawuyi, described the development as a defining moment for the airline.

“This is more than an expansion of our fleet; it is a celebration of Nigerian excellence, a tribute to our heroes, and a bold statement of our vision for the future of aviation”, he said.

Globally renowned for its efficiency, reliability, and passenger comfort, the Boeing 737-800 will further enhance United Nigeria Airlines’ route network and service delivery, as the airline sets its sights on broader regional and long-haul expansion.
