The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced the maiden edition of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Global Programme, reaffirming its commitment to building a future-ready workforce for Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The four-day training, holding from July 20 to 23, 2026, at the FAAN Training School, is designed to equip personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen workforce development, attract and retain talent, promote career growth, and ensure effective succession planning across the Authority.
Participants are drawn from key operational and administrative departments, including Airport Operations, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Engineering, and other aviation-related disciplines. The programme aligns with ICAO’s NGAP initiative aimed at developing a sustainable, competent and future-ready global aviation workforce.
Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to investing in human capital as a key driver of operational excellence and sustainable growth.
According to her, the aviation industry is evolving rapidly, making continuous learning and skills development essential for professionals to keep pace with emerging challenges and global best practices.
She urged participants to take full advantage of the training by actively engaging in the sessions and applying the knowledge gained to enhance service delivery across the Authority.
In her welcome address, the General Manager, Training and Human Resources Development, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, described the programme as an important platform for personal and professional development.
She encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity to acquire new competencies that would not only advance their careers but also strengthen FAAN’s succession planning and talent retention strategy.
Akinlade stressed that developing and retaining highly skilled professionals remains critical to the Authority’s continued growth, resilience and operational excellence.
The ICAO NGAP Global Maiden Edition has brought together participants from various FAAN directorates and operational units, providing a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and leadership development.
The programme, which concludes on July 23, features interactive sessions facilitated by experienced aviation professionals and subject matter experts, with a focus on strengthening FAAN’s workforce capacity and supporting the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
