Concerned with the recent incessant boat mishaps that have taken countless lives on Nigeria inland waterways, Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology has announced plan for a professional training on Adopting New Boat Designs that meet Safety Standards and ensure Regulatory Compliance.
This is in response to investigations by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) pointing to substandard boats that operate on the nation’s waterways.
The investigations revealed that the use of unstable boats which are built by artisans without the application of modern principles of boat design and which are in most cases overloaded with passengers and goods account for greater percentage of these fatal boat accidents; in addition to non compliance to safety standards by boat owners and operators.
To forestall this ugly trend on Nigerian inland waterways, Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology said the five-day training will equip participants on modern boat designs that meet global safety standards.
According to the Technical Director of the Academy, Engr. Adakole Ejegbudu, “all training are conducted and certified by Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology in partnership with Practical Boat Design and Seamanship International (PBDSI) and endorsed by Transportation Growth Initiative (TGI)”.
He urged interested participants to register and be part of the insightful training.scheduled to hold between May 19 to 23, 2025,l.
