The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) is rallying top maritime stakeholders, including Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Tantita Security Services Limited, and the Maritime Security Providers Association of Nigeria (MASPAN), to participate in its 3rd Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL) 2025.
The event, initially scheduled for August 28, 2025, at the Eko Hotel, has been rescheduled to August 27, 2025, at the Four Point by Sheraton Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
MAMAL 2025 aims to examine the implications of persistent Extra War Risk Insurance (EWRI) premiums on Nigeria’s maritime trade and the Gulf of Guinea. The lecture will host strategic dialogues on maritime security, global shipping insurance practices, and the way forward for stakeholders. Over 500 industry participants, including shipowners, terminal operators, insurers, and maritime regulators, are expected to attend.
Confirmed speakers include Dr. Emeka Akabogu, a maritime lawyer who will deliver the keynote address, and Barr. Temisan Omatseye, former Director-General of NIMASA. Other attendees include frontline maritime lawyers, terminal operators, and industry associations such as the Nigerian Trawler Owners Association (NITOA), African Shipowners Association (ASA), Shipowners Association of Nigeria (SOAN), and Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA).
MARAN President Godfrey Bivbere explained that MAMAL 2025 would explore issues leading to high-risk zone classifications and the roles of core stakeholders like NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy.
The event seeks to shape actionable outcomes and reinforce industry advocacy for safer waters and fairer trade conditions.
